About MacroEngine

Our Mission, Our Standards, Our Team

Who We Are

MacroEngine is an independent digital fitness engineering platform built by a team of developers, health technology researchers, and applied fitness practitioners who share a single conviction: that evidence-based nutritional tools should be freely accessible to everyone, without paywalls, without misleading marketing, and without compromising on scientific integrity.

We launched MacroEngine because we were frustrated with the state of online fitness calculators — tools that used outdated equations, buried key disclaimers in fine print, presented guesses as precision, or pushed users toward expensive supplement affiliate products instead of honest information. We set out to build something different: a clean, fast, transparent platform where every calculation is explainable, every limitation is disclosed, and every design decision prioritizes the user's genuine wellbeing over engagement metrics.

Our Background

The MacroEngine team brings together expertise across three core disciplines that we believe are essential for building trustworthy health technology:

Digital Fitness Engineering: Our development team specializes in building high-performance, accessible web applications optimized for real-world use across all devices and connection speeds. Every tool on MacroEngine is built from scratch in native HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — no heavyweight frameworks, no unnecessary dependencies, no user tracking libraries embedded in the calculation logic. We believe performance is a form of respect for the user's time.

Applied Exercise Science: Our content development is informed by a working knowledge of exercise physiology, sports nutrition principles, and the primary research literature. We do not hold clinical licensure, and we are transparent about that — which is why our content consistently directs users toward qualified professionals for personalized guidance. We engage with peer-reviewed research from journals including the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and the British Journal of Sports Medicine to ground our educational content in the best available evidence.

Health Technology Ethics: We take seriously our responsibility as a platform that operates in the "Your Money or Your Life" category as defined by Google's Search Quality Evaluator Guidelines. This means we have adopted strict internal standards around what claims we will and will not make, how we present uncertainty in our calculations, and how prominently we surface our disclaimers and professional consultation recommendations.

Our Editorial Standards

Every piece of content published on MacroEngine — whether it appears as a tool output, an article, an FAQ answer, or an interface label — is evaluated against the following editorial standards before publication:

  • Scientific Grounding: All calculation methodologies must be based on peer-reviewed, clinically validated equations or protocols. We currently use the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation for BMR estimation because it consistently outperforms alternatives (such as the Harris-Benedict Equation) in independent validation studies for non-obese adult populations.
  • Transparent Limitation Disclosure: We do not overstate the precision or reliability of our calculations. Every tool on MacroEngine includes accessible disclosure that outputs are estimates, not measurements, and that individual results will vary based on factors our tools cannot account for.
  • No Therapeutic Claims: MacroEngine does not claim that using our tools will cure, treat, prevent, or diagnose any medical condition. We do not make weight loss guarantees. We do not endorse specific diet products or supplement protocols.
  • Regular Content Review: Nutritional science evolves. We are committed to reviewing our educational content on a regular basis to ensure alignment with emerging scientific consensus. Articles that reference specific studies or statistics include publication dates to help users evaluate currency.
  • Accessibility: We build our tools to be usable by people of all technical backgrounds, body types, fitness levels, and physical abilities. We avoid stigmatizing language around body weight and use clinical, non-judgmental framing throughout our interface and content.

Our Verification Process

Before any calculation methodology or health claim appears on MacroEngine, it passes through a multi-step internal review process:

  1. Source Identification: The original peer-reviewed source or clinical guideline document supporting the methodology is identified and logged.
  2. Formula Verification: The mathematical implementation is verified against published specifications from the source material and cross-checked against at least one independent academic reference.
  3. Edge Case Testing: Calculation tools are tested against known clinical edge cases — extreme body weights, very low calorie floors, unusual height-to-weight ratios — to ensure outputs degrade gracefully and trigger appropriate user warnings rather than producing clinically implausible results.
  4. Disclaimer Alignment: Content is reviewed against our Disclaimer page to confirm that all claims, implied or explicit, are consistent with the limitations we have disclosed to users.
  5. Plain Language Review: Technical content is reviewed for clarity and comprehensibility by a team member without specialized nutrition training. If they cannot understand a calculation's methodology, the explanation is rewritten until they can.

What MacroEngine Is Not

We believe transparency about limitations is as important as transparency about capabilities. MacroEngine is not a medical practice, a telehealth service, a supplement retailer, a fitness coaching service, or a clinical weight management program. We do not have a medical advisory board, and we do not employ licensed dietitians or physicians to review individual users' health situations. The tools and content we provide are appropriate as educational starting points and general reference materials — not as substitutes for individualized professional care.

If you are dealing with a medically complex situation involving your weight, nutrition, or fitness — including any history of disordered eating, chronic disease, hormonal conditions, or post-surgical recovery — we strongly encourage you to seek the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional who can evaluate your full medical history and provide personalized recommendations.

Contact and Feedback

We genuinely value user feedback as a mechanism for improving the scientific accuracy, usability, and trustworthiness of our platform. If you believe a calculation is inaccurate, a claim is misleading, or a tool is not working as intended, please contact us directly using our Contact page. We take accuracy concerns seriously and commit to reviewing all substantive feedback within five business days.
